New this year to the PEI Farm Tour is the opportunity for the public to participate in in-person farm tours!! There will be three farm tours:
- Thursday, June 24th
- Thursday, July 15th
- Thursday, August 12th
Each tour will consist of visiting two farms in the morning, stopping for lunch at a restaurant that locally sources their food and one farm visit in the afternoon. The farms visits will be a variety and different each tour and consist of dairy, beef, potato, vegetable, wild blueberry or an organic farm. Animal welfare, agricultural water use, and temporary foreign workers will be topics that the farmers will discuss throughout the tours as they are topics seen in the media recently. The tours are FREE and will include lunch, snacks, swag bags and a few giveaways during the day where you can win $50 Canada’s Food Island gift cards! Farm tours held to date have been fun, educational and majorly enjoyed by all participants. If you are interested in joining our cancellation list for these farm tours or future farm tours please contact us.
A huge thank you has to go out to our 2021 farm tour hosts; our tours would not have been possible without these farms. All farmers were great spokespeople for the industry; they generously opened their farm to each of our tours and answered any questions asked with passion. Our 2021 farm hosts were: Lady Fane Farms Inc., Bunny Burrow Vegetable Co., Schurman Family Farm, Lawton Produce Inc., Rollo Bay Holdings Ltd., Springwater Farms, Vanco Farms, Sandy Rae Holsteins, Productions Vegkiss PEI, Farm Boys Inc., and Bernadale Farms.
On each tour, we stopped for lunch and had a delicious meal at each. Each of these restaurants supports local farms by using local ingredients in their meals. On our 2021 farm tours, the restaurants stopped at were The Handpie Company, 21 Breakwater, Wheelhouse in Georgetown, The Canadian Potato Museum PEI ! Another huge thank you to these restaurants for opening their doors and providing participants with a tasty meal.
